What we do

EMConsulting is an electrical engineering consulting firm that specializes in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).

Whether you call it interference, noise, Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (EEE, E3, or E³), solving interference problems is not "black magic." By considering basic laws of physics, EMConsulting can provide effective engineering solutions to prevent or eliminate electrical interference problems in your products.

Some of the services we provide include:

Design Review of circuit boards, enclosures, cables, etc. for E³ factors
Diagnostics, troubleshooting, and problem remediation during testing at your facility, your customer's site, or at your selected test lab
Identify RF noise problems by near field probing of equipment and systems using our test equipment at your site
Write or review E³ control plans and procedures
E³ requirements generation and review
Provide E³ design guidance from concept to in-service operation

How we do it

EMConsulting believes that the most effective way to avoid problems and meet product EMC requirements is by providing to clients guidance and review during the definition, design, and development phases of projects thereby reducing cost, schedule, and technical risk. Sounds like a great approach, doesn't it? But realizing that up front EMC design support is sometimes unavailable or impractical, EMConsulting also provides diagnostic, troubleshooting, and EMC problem remediation during qualification testing or certification of client products.

Who we are

EMConsulting is a single-member Limited Liability Company that has provided independent EMC design and related consulting services to telecommunications, communications, commercial, and government projects since 2006. The principal, Stu Benner, is an iNARTE Certified EMC Engineer, Senior Member of the IEEE, and member of the IEEE EMC Society.

Stu brings to you over 30 years of experience in electromagnetics-related fields including:

EMI/EMC/EEE/E³ design and test (MIL-STD-461/462/464, DD-1494, FCC Part 15, DO-160, CE Mark)
NASA, defense, and commercial spacecraft design and test
Military electronics design and test
Civil aviation electronics design and test
Bonding, grounding, shielding, and lightning protection
AM/FM radio and television broadcast engineering

Stu is an electrical engineer with broad experience from concept to deployment of high reliability military and scientific spacecraft and military electronics (airborne and ground-based) in complex electromagnetic environments. He has extensive experience in anomaly resolution during ground test, launch, deployment, and operation of spacecraft. His experience includes systems engineering, project engineering, electrical (analog) design engineering, and test engineering. Stu presently holds an active DoD Secret Clearance and previously held a TS/SCI access for over 15 years in support of various programs.
